2 Shibir activists held over petrol bomb attack in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Mar 8 (UNB): Police in separate drives arrested two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Hathazari and Fatikchhari upazilas in the early hours of Sunday in connection with Wednesday's petrol bomb attack on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Hathazari that left one passenger of the vehicle dead.
The arrestees were identified as Kamal (25) and Iqbal (26), both residents of Bumarmardan area of Hathazari upazila.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari thana Mohammad Ismail said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in Udalia area of Hathazari and arrested Iqbal at about 3:00 am.
Following Iqbal's confessional statement, police conducted another drive in Fatikchhari and arrested Kamal at about 3:30 am.
Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Mustafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Charia in Hathazari upazila around 9.00 pm on Wednesday, leaving its driver Sabbir and passenger Ranjit injured with burns.
Ranjit received 80-83 per cent burn injuries while Sabbir received 42 per cent burn injuries during the incident.
They were admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Ranjit succumbed to his injuries early Friday.
