SYLHET, Jun 10 (UNB): Three people, including two siblings, were killed as the boundary wall of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (divisional stadium) collapsed on them early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Zahed Ahmed, 22, son of Azan Ali and his (Zahed's) sister Nasima Akter, 22, and Ruhul, 17, cousin of Zahed.
Fire service officials said the eastside boundary wall of the stadium collapsed due to incessant rainfall crushing down the house of Azan Ali at labour colony of Lakkatura tea garden.
Azan Ali said the incident took place at about 2:30 am when the wall of the stadium fell down on their house.
All house inmates managed to come out while Zahed, Nasima and Ruhul were asleep inside, only to meet the tragic death.
Ruhul, son of tea worker Kutub Uddin of Shreemongal upazila, came here to visit the house of his uncle Azan Ali some days ago.
Hearing the news of the wall collapse, locals rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of two victims.
A fire service unit later managed to recover another body.
Officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station Shah Jaman said on information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, workers of Lakkatura tea garden staged a demonstration protesting the death of the people and demanding compensation to the victim's family and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
