2 suspected criminals killed in city shootout

Police shot to death two suspected criminals in Motijheel in the city on Sunday. The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP) claimed the duo was members of a gang of criminal and died of bullet injuries during a ‘gunfight’ with the detectives in the commercial hub of the city early today. However, the police did not provide the identity of the deceased. The DB also said that they recovered two firearms and one motorbike from the spot. Sources said a team of DB police challenged two motorbikes near Motijheel Ideal School and College around 2:00am. Sensing danger, the bikers opened fire targeting the detectives, who responded by returning fire. Contacted, DB deputy commissioner (public relations) Masudur Rahman said two criminals were found seriously wounded after the exchange of fire. Besides, two firearms and one motorbike were recovered from the spot, he added. The bullet-hit bikers were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor pronounced them dead. However, they detective could not say as to what happened to the two other bikers, who were involved in the shootout and suspected to have been with the two gangsters killed in the gunfight with cops, according to a news agency.
