Two assistant proctors of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) stepped down on Sunday, 72 hours after the killing of a student by assailants on the campus. SUST assistant proctors Niloy Chandra Sarkar and Abu Awal Mohammad Shoyeb submitted their resignation letters to proctor Himadri Shekhor Ray, university sources confirmed. Himadri Shekhor said they mentioned personal reasons for their resignation. He also noted that the final decision in this regard will be taken after the vice chancellor of the university returns from India on November 26. Tension prevailed in and around SUST campus in Sylhet following death on Sumon Das, 22, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in a factional clash of the ruling party’s student wing over establishing dominance there on Thursday. The SUST authority closed the university for an indefinite period after the BCL factional fight, according to a news agency.
