2 to die for killing businessman in Ctg

A Chittagong court on Monday sentenced two people to life term imprisonment for killing a businessman in 2006. The convicts are Jahir Uddin, son of Atar Ali, and Zia Uddin, son of Ruhul Amin, both residents of Korerhat area in Mirsarai Upazila of the district. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, two years more RI. According to the prosecution, Jahir and Zia beat up shopkeeper Anwar Hossain, a resident of Korerhat, mercilessly when he demanded some money back which he had lent them on November 21, 2006, leaving him seriously injured. Anwar Hossain was rushed to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead. Anwar Hossain's mother Salma Khatun filed a case with Mirsarai Police Station the next day. On March 2007, police submitted a charge-sheet. After examining 14 witnesses and documents, Public Security Tribunal and Special District and Sessions Judge M Mominullah handed down the punishment, according to a news agency.
