2 transport workers shot dead in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, May 20 (UNB): Two transport workers were shot dead by gunmen in separate incidents in Chatkhil Upazila Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Kamal Uddin (35), a worker of ticket counter of 'Al Baraka Paribahan' at Dashgharia bus stand in Chatkhil Upazila, and Dulal Hossain (25), a bus helper and son of late Nurul Islam of Sundurpur village in the same upazila.
Witnesses said two gunmen wearing masks on a motorcycle made a swoop on the ticket counter of 'Al Baraka Paribahan' in Dashgharia at about 5:15 am and opened fire at Kamal while he was performing his duty, leaving him injured critically.
Injured Kamal was rushed to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead.
After 15 minutes of the incident, bus helper Dual came under attack by the same gunmen while he was walking in front of his house at Sundurpur village.
The miscreants fired two rounds of bullet targeting him, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, Begumganj circle ASP Niskriti Chakma and officer-in-charge Aminul Islam of Chatkhil Police Station visited the two spots.
Police recovered the two bodies and took them to the police station.
The reason behind the killings could not be known immediately.
Meanwhile, local people blocked a road in front of Chatkhail upazila headquarters protesting the murders halting traffic on the road that disconnected Chittagong and Noakhali with the capital.
