20 BGB jawans jailed in mutiny case

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Apr 12 (UNB): A court here Tuesday sentenced 20 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) jawans to various terms of imprisonment ranging from six months to six years for their involvement in 2009 mutiny. The court also fined the convicts Tk 100 each. Among the convicts, two jawans were awarded six months jail, one jawan five years, one jawan four years, four jawans three years, two jawnas two years and six months, two jawans two years, five jawans one year and six months, two jawans one year and one six months. The three-judge panel headed by Rajshahi BGB sector commander Col Ehia Azam khan acquitted a jawan as charges brought against him were not proved. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Khalid Hossain and Lt Commander (BN) Touhidul Islam. 39 Battalion DAD Kamal Miah filed the case against 21 BGB men on October 30,2010 on charge of looting armory and threatening army officers expressing solidarity with the mutineers at BGB headquarters in the capital.
