20 gold bars seized at Shahjalal

Customs intelligence officials recovered 20 gold bars weighing 2 kilograms (kg) at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in the city's Kurmitola on Saturday. An air passnger from Malaysia was arrested. He was identified as Hashim Mollah, 35, hailing from Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar district. Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Abu Yusuf said Hashim arrived in Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur by an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at about 6:30am. When Hashim was about to leave the airport through the Green Channel, customs officials stopped him and found presence of gold after scanning his luggage. Twenty gold bars each weighing 100 grams were recovered from inside an electric iron, AC Yusuf added, according to UNB.
