Thursday, 27 May 2010
At least 20 people, including a police officer, were injured when workers of a garment factory clashed with policemen Wednesday at Jamgora under Ashulia industrial belt over wage hike and other financial benefits. Witnesses said around 1,500 garment workers of Setara Group started demonstration in front of the factory gate at about 8:30am demanding wage hike, increase in lunch bill, bonuses and other financial benefits. The workers became unruly after the factory management branded their demands illogical and unlawful saying the government had formed a committee which sought three months' time to increase workers' monthly wages.
