20 hurt as tornado lashes Satkhira

SATKHIRA, Jun 24 (UNB): At least 20 people were injured and over 300 thatched houses damaged as a tornado lashed across 10 villages in the costal area under Shyamnagar upazila of the district on Tuesday.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said the violent storm swept through the villages, including Mirgang, Bhetkhali, Tengrakhali, Koikhali, Shora and Kalinchi, and the part of the Sundarbans in the morning.
The tornado that lasted for 10 minutes also uprooted a number of trees. At least 20 people were injured in house collapses during the storm.
Three of the injured were rushed to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex.
