20 hurt in clash over land in Savar

SAVAR, June 20 (UNB): At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over taking possession of a piece of land at Shyampur village in the upazila on Friday night.
Quoting locals, police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Mahsin Mandol and Shahjahan over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
A clash ensued as men of Shahjahan obstructed the Mahsin group when they tried to put up a signboard on the disputed land at about 10:30pm.
At one stage, supporters of the both groups equipped with weapons and firearms attacked each other, leaving 20 people injured.
Informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. The attackers also vandalised a police van during the clash.
The law enforcers arrested a man named Shahjahan of the village in connection with the clash.
Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station SM Kamruzzaman confirmed the incident.
A case was filed in this connection.
