20 injured in BCL clash at JNU

At least 20 activists were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over a previous enmity at Jagannath University (JNU) Thursday.
The injured were admitted to a private hospital near the university. Of the injured, Rajib, Sohel Khan and Sumon Nandi were in critical state.
Kotwali thana Officer-in-Charge Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that a group of BCL activists swooped on the activists of another BCL group with chapattis, iron rods and sticks without any provocation at around 11 am.
Police later took the situation under control; the Kotwali thana OC said adding that additional policemen were deployed on the campus to ward off any further clash.
Sources said the clash erupted between the groups of JNU unit BCL President Kamrul Hasan Ripon and General Secretary Gazi Abu Sayeed over an incident on April 4 due to teasing a female student on the campus that left at least 15 leaders and activists injured.
When contacted, Gazi Abu Sayeed said several unruly BCL activists were causing these incidents on the campus one after another to execute their own agenda.
UNB from Sylhet adds: Three students were injured in BCL factional fight on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Thursday.
Raju group was engaged in the clash with Arif-Moloy group at about 1.00 pm leaving Liton, Sabuj and Sumon of Raju group wounded, witnesses said.
They chased each other with sticks and pelted brickbats. Some windows of adjacent buildings were broken.
The feuding groups also clashed with the police when they intervened to quell the situation.
