At least 20 have been injured at a college at Narayanganj after members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) allegedly attacked a procession by leftist student bodies, reports bdnews24.com.
The incident took place at Government Tolaram College around 11:30am on Wednesday, Md Mustafa, sub-inspector (SI) of Fatulla Model thana, told the news agency.
Police were present during the attack but did nothing to stop it, said District Chhatra Union president Maitri Ghosh.
He said they were going to hand over a memorandum to the college's principal with several demands, mainly to protest the 'admission trade' allegedly carried out by the Awami League's student wing.
"Chhatra League's activists including Tofa and Alif attacked us, led by their college president Habibur Rahman Riyadh. Police stood watching," he added.
The activists began beating the leftist students to break up the procession as it entered the campus's main entrance, witnesses said.
At least 20 were injured as BCL activists locked the main gate after taking position on both sides.
