Publicity and publication affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) Dr Hasan Mahmud said Thursday the 20-party combine should seek apology to the people as they rejected its hartal , reports BSS.
"By rejecting their hartal, people have also rejected their demands for restoration of caretaker system of government and holding midterm polls," he said.
Dr Mahmud said this while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-hartal human chain and public rally in front of the National Press Club in the city.
Awami Muktijoddha Projanma League, an organisation of the offspring of the freedom fighters (FFs), organised the demonstration with its acting president Mesbah Uddin Safi in the chair. Assistant secretary of the AL sub-committee Hasibur Rahman Manik and vice-president of the organisation Advocate Mokbul Hossain Mithu were the speakers, among others.
Dr Mahmud said the 20-party combine should shun the politics of violence and seek apology for this to the people at public meetings and rallies and only then people could pardon them.
The AL leader said, "BNP's politics is focused mainly on capturing state power through conspiracy. After being rejected by the people and failing to save the war criminals, they have opted, once again, for conspiracy."
"BNP-Jamaat has been conspiring to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Their conspiracy should be foiled. Otherwise, forces loyal to the spirit of the War of Liberation would have to pay a high price," Dr Hasan Mahmud added.
