BNP on Tuesday night termed the filing of a fresh case against the top leaders of the party and its alliance partners a 'plot to destroy democracy', reports UNB.
"This is totally a false and fabricated case. We condemn and protest it," said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Addressing a press briefing at the BNP's Nayapaltan central office, Rizvi alleged that the case was filed as part of the government's evil design to 'thwart' their movement.
Police filed a case against at least 43 senior leaders of BNP and its alliance partners, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas and joint secretary general Rizvi, in connection with torching of violence at Purana Paltan crossing.
The case was filed with the Paltan Police Station on Monday night for torching the government vehicle on Sunday evening ahead of the BNP-led 20-party alliance sponsored Monday's countrywide hartal.
Rizvi claimed that the government filed the case to divert people's attention from their movement to a different direction.
