200 shops, 100 shanties gutted in Ctg fire

At least 200 shops of a market and 100 shanties gutted as a slum caught fire at Barapol in the city’s Halishahar on Wednesday evening. Sub-assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service Jasimuddin said the fire broke out at the slum around 6.30pm. Later, the fire spread to nearby Singapore Samabaya Market, burning down the shops and shanties. On information, firefighters from five stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two and a half hours of hectic efforts around 9.00pm, according to a news agency.
