2,000-kg hilsa seized

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized 2,000 kgs of hisla fish while those were being smuggled out to India through Gatipara border at Benapole union at Sharsha upazila in Jessore on Wednesday. Acting on secret information that a huge quantity of hilsa was being smuggled to India, a team of the BGB Battalion-23 conducted a drive early in the morning and recovered 2,000-kg hilsa fish worth Tk 1.7 million, said commanding officer of BGB Lieutenant Col Mostafizur Rahman. The border guards fired 22 rounds of bullet as smugglers tried to resist them. But no one was injured in the firing. However, no arrest was made as the smugglers managed to escape leaving behind the fish, according to UNB.
