203 PICs start work in Sunamganj

SYLHET, Jan 23: The farmers in haor region of the country's north-east especially Sunamganj and other districts are still in trouble since the Project Implementation Committees (PIC) couldn't start works on the flood control or crop protection schemes yet due to delay in water recession from the haor areas.
However, the Water Development Board (WDB) officials saod on Tuesday out of 870, only 203 PICs started their work in Sunamganj. The rests would begin in a week if the water receded from areas.
Over Tk 1.0 billion had already been sanctioned for the crop protection schemes this year, the official said. Another Tk 535 million was sanctioned for urgent repair of water regulators, canal digging and river dredging with a view to ease water recession.
