21 killed, 50 hurt in Faridpur road mishap

FARIDPUR, Dec 6 (UNB): At least 21 people were killed and 50 others injured as two passenger-packed buses collided head on and then both crashed into a roadside ditch at Sadardai in Bhanga Upazila Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Helal Uddin told the news agency that the accident occurred on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway as a speedy Dhaka-bound bus rammed into another bus coming from the opposite direction at about 4:45pm.
"Both the vehicles tumbled into the ditch after the head-on collision, killing 21 people on the spot and injuring 50 others," says a spot account.
On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and began rescue operation with the help of local people.
The injured were admitted to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital and local clinics.
The condition of some of the injured passengers was reported to be critical.
