21 killed in two mishaps

At least 21 people were killed in two separate accidents Wednesday, reports UNB.
In Bagerhat, at least 16 people were killed and another 50 injured in a tragic road accident in Madrassah Ghat area of Mollahat upazila on Dhaka-Maowa highway early Wednesday.
Two of the deceased were identified as Mozaffar Hossain (35), of Koyla village and Arifa Akhter Anny (8), of Gobindapur village in the upazila.
The identity of other deceased could not be known immediately. The rescuers feared that the death toll might go up. Meanwhile, in Comilla, five people, including four children, were killed and another four injured when a bus hit a CNG-run 'tempo' at Chansri in Chauddagram upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Fulmati Begum (55), wife of Haji Habibullah, and her four grand-daughters Ranu Akhter (12), Mamuna Akhter (6), Farhana Akhter (5), and Fahima Akhter (7). They all hailed from Sadar South upazila and Chauddagram upazila.
Witnesses and police said the accident in Bagerhat occurred at 4:30am when a Mongla bound bus from Dhaka collided with a mango loaded truck in the ghat area on the highway, leaving 16 people dead on the spot.
The injured passengers were admitted to Mollahat and Fakirhat upazila health complexes and Khulna Medical College Hospital. The condition of 10 of the injured was stated to be critical. Vehicular movement on the highway remained stopped for three hours from 4:30 am following the accident.
In another incident on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway a bus of Jamuna Paribahan dashed a CNG-run 'tempo' coming from the opposite direction leaving the five passengers of the CNG dead on the spot and injuring another four at 11 in the morning.
