22 bandits killed in last 18 months in Sundarbans

KHULNA, Oct 5: 22 bandits have been killed in gunfights and 2500 fishermen were abducted in Sundarbans during the last one and a half year. Though the killing of forest robbers in drives conducted several times in Sundarbans kidnapping of fishermen and ransom did not stop. The robbers are continuing their criminal activities in Sundarbans ignoring RAB, Coast Guard and Forest department.
Sources also said that forest guards cannot resist the crime due shortage of manpower, modern arms and river transports. Fishermen alleged that most of the drives fail because the criminals get informed before the drive by their sources over mobile phone. The sources are influential persons of Khulna, Mongla, Sharonkhola and Bagerhat areas.
3 killed in accident
Three persons were killed in separate accident in Khulna and Satkhira districts. The accident occurred when an old man Keramot Ali Morol (75) was hit by a motor cycle. He was rushed to the Satkhira sadar hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Source said that an unidentified man aged about 45 years was killed in a road accident while he was returning home driving a three-wheeler and when he reached Majherbheri area under Dumuria Upazila of the district a pick up van dashed him from behind. He died on the spot on Tuesday night. Local people seized the pickup van and the driver and handed him over to Dumuria police station. The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Another accident was occurred at village Khanpur under Monrampur Upazila when Wazed Ali Mia (40) fell from coconut tree while he was cleaning the tree on Tuesday noon. He died on the spot.
New PS in KMP area proposed
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has taken an initiative to increase the number of police station at KMP area after 25 years. KMP has decided to send a proposal to the police headquarters to set up 3 new thanas at Labanchara, Aranghata and Khulna University.
The function of KMP had started from July-1, 1986. The population as well as crime have increased during the last 25 years. But no new thanas have set up ever since. In this situation, KMP proposed to the police headquarters to set up three thanas in the city.
