The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained 22 people while they were trying to embark on an illegal voyage to Malaysia to seek better fortunes.
Nuniar Chharha Coast Guard station officer Shahidur Rahman said, "They have been detained from the Najirartek point at 7 Sunday morning.”
The maritime border patrol agency has also seized the trawler used for the trafficking.
"Among those held, eleven hail from Narsinghdi, eight from Sylhet, and three from Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar," Shahidur Rahman said, according to a news agency.
Legal action would be taken against them once they were handed over to police, he added.
Last month, the Coast Guard had detained 124 people while they were trying to go to Malaysia by sea.
