Wednesday, 1 October 2014

A trawler, loaded with sacrificial animals, sank in Jamuna River in Daulatpur Upazila in Manikganj district on Tuesday. At least 22 cattle drowned in the capsize. However, 14 people of the trawler managed to swim ashore. Police and witnesses said a group of cattle traders along with 23 cattle were heading towards Dhaka city by a trawler. At one stage, the overloaded trawler fell in rough water in the Jamuna River and leaned to its one side. A little while later, the trawler capsized along with 23 cattle and 14 people, including 13 cattle traders. All the 14 people and a cow managed to swim to the river bank. Locals said the 22 cattle drowned as the animals were tied with rope tightly so they could not swim, according to a news agency.
