22 fishermen fined for catching Hilsa

A mobile court in Manikganj on Monday fined 22 fishermen for catching Hilsa fish in Padma River in Aricha union defying the government ban. Shibaloy Police Station’s officer-in-charge Rakibuzzaman said fisheries department officials and Shibaloy Upazila Nirbahi Officer Galiv Khan conducted a drive in Aricha Ghat (terminal) and picked up 22 fishermen along with 40kg Hilsa around 1am on Monday. Later, the arrestees were produced before the mobile court on Monday morning. The court convicted all 22 fishermen slapping Tk 500 fine on each, according to a news agency.
