22 maunds of jatka seized in Munshiganj

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 22 maunds of jatka (hilsa fry less than ten inches in length) raiding two launches in Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Tuesday. Sources at Coast Guard headquarters said a team from Coast Guard Station in Pagla of Narayanganj district conducted separate drives at ‘MV Prince Russell’ and ‘MV Swarnadip Plus’ in Dhaleshari around 4:00am. The law enforces recovered 22 maunds of jatka from the two launches in an abandoned condition as the traders fled away from the scene after sensing the presence of the coast guards. The market value of the seized fish would be Tk 264,000. The seized jataka was handed over to the fisheries officer of Munshiganj and later those were distributed among poor people and different madrasas and orphanages in the district, according to UNB.
