22 suspected militants arrested in Barisal

BARISAL, Apr 23 (bdnews24.com): The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 22 alleged militants, 21 of them women, in a raid on two houses in Barisal city Thursday.
Lt Commander AKM Mamunur Rashid of RAB-8 said during the raid and frisking, about 80/ 90 volumes of books on religion were retrieved from burqah-clad women occupants of the places.
Officials were ascertaining if the seized books were in any manner related to militancy, RAB said.
Com Rashid said being tipped off by an informer, they raided a house adjacent to the RAB office in Rupatali and arrested a man and two women on suspicion.
Acting on the information provided by the arrestees, RAB raided another house on New Circular Road and arrested 19 women from a clandestine meeting.
Rashid said the women were taken into custody on suspicion of being involved in militancy.
The detainees were being quizzed at RAB local office to verify their alleged links to militancy, he added.
