220 houses burnt in Rohingya camp

COX'S BAZAR, JUNE 01: As many as 220 houses were burned down in a devastating fire that broke out in a Rohingya camp in Ukhia Upazila of the district on Saturday.
Official sources said the fire erupted in Kanthalatali market at D-3 block of Tanzimarkhola Rohingya Camp-13 at about 1:30pm and engulfed the nearby houses.
Firefighters brought the fire under control around 2:30pm after a frantic effort for one and an half hours. Three units of the fire service took part in fighting the fire.
Armed Police Battalion (APBn) captain Amir Zafar confirmed the incident, but could not provide any information about the origin of the fire.
He mentioned that a fire suddenly erupted at Kanthaltali market of Tanzimarkhola Rohingya Camp-13 and spread into the camp.
On information, the APBn police immediately informed the Ukhia Fire Service Station of the fire incident, where from two units of firefighters rushed to the spot and engaged in putting out the fire.
Mr Zafar also said that some 220 houses of Rohingyas were gutted by the blaze, but no casualties were reported till the filing of this report at 4:00pm.
Atish Chakma, deputy assistant director of the Cox's Bazar Fire Service, said that the camp fire was brought under control.Earlier on May 24, a fire incident took place in the same camp, burning down over 300 homes of Rohingyas.
