23 bodies of capsized launch recovered so far

The death toll in launch capsize in Padma River at Lauhajang Upazila in Munshiganj rose to 23 with recovery of one more corpse on Thursday morning. Divers found the body of a woman around 8:30am today near Mawa Turning Point in Padma where ‘Pinak 6’ overturned with over 350 on board at 11:30am on Monday. However, the identity of the female dead body recovered in the morning could not be known. Earlier, floating corpses of 22 victims of the overcrowded double-decked launch were recovered from Padma and Meghna rivers in the district of Chandpur, Barisal, Bhola, Laxmipur and Shariatpur from Monday to Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Mohammad Saiful Hasan told local journalists that the 23 bodies were recovered from different points of the two rivers till filing of this report around 12.00pm, according to UNB.
