23 shops gutted, 3 houses burnt in Ctg fires

CHITTAGONG, Mar 9: At least 23 furniture shops and three houses were gutted in two separate incidents in the early hours of today. One old man died from fright while another received burn injury during the fire incidents.
The shops were gutted at Baluchara area under Bayezid police station in the city in the devastating fire that started from an electric short circuit at around 4:30 this morning.
The fire fighters took more than two hours to bring the fire under control. Fire fighters said the extent of damage might be around Tk 2.50 million.
Meanwhile, panic from fire caused one Rabiul Alam (60) to suffer heart attack in his house about 20 metres off the scene.
Another fire incident caused by electric short circuit occurred at Bahaddarhat Bolirhat area in the city around the same time. Three houses were burnt to ashes in the fire. A local youth named Azad received burn injury in the fire as he was trying to extinguish the fire.
