230 Ctg colleges see 0.280m applications

CHITTAGONG, Jun 23: Over 0.280 million applications of HSC admission seekers have been filed in 230 colleges under Chittagong Education Board for the current session of 2015.
Some 83,301 admission seekers filed 280,495 applications, mostly in six government colleges in city. They would not need to sit for admission test this year as the authority has said the admission seekers would be selected on the basis of their results in the SSC examination.
Sunday was the last day of filing applications for admission into colleges. They filed their applications through online. The students will learn about which college they are going to get themselves admitted by June 30 in the first phase, an inspector of the board said.
College Inspector Suman Barua of the Board of Chittagong Secondary and Higher Secondary Education said the admission seekers would get the results of their chosen institution by June 30.
The second phase would begin after closing of the admission and migration process of the first phase. The left out seats would then be filled from among those in the waiting list. The highest number of applications had been registered in the government colleges.
About 10,163 applications have been filed with Chittagong Government College for only 800 seats - 500 in science and 300 in Humanities.
About 14,743 applications filed with Government Haji Mohsin College for 1,500 seats in science, humanities and business studies. Some 18,841 applications filed with Government City College for 1,875 seats in science, humanities and business studies.
About 1,760 applications filed with Government Commerce College for 800 seats in commerce, 6664 applications filed with Government Women's College for 900 seats in science, humanities and business studies and 3,966 applications filed with Government Collegiate School and College for 160 seats in science and business studies.
