Sunday, 13 July 2014

Twenty-four of the 51 Bangladesh missions abroad have failed to achieve respective export targets for the first 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal (2013-14), according to a news agency.
The key Bangladesh missions like those in Washington, London, Ottawa, Tokyo, New Delhi and Canberra have failed to achieve their July-May export targets. Some other important missions –- Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Rome, The Hague and Stockholm -- have been able to reach their targets for the 11-month period, according to a news agency.
The overall export earnings for the July-May period of the current fiscal totaled US$ 27,376.57 million against the strategic target of $ 27,434.75 million, having 0.21 per cent fall over the strategic target.
Of the 51 Bangladesh missions, 27 met their respective export targets for the July-May period of the current fiscal (FY14), according to the latest statistics provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The 27 well-performing missions are in Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Rome, The Hague, Stockholm, Brussels, Ankara, Beijing, Seoul, Cairo, Lisbon, Hanoi, Amman, Kuwait, Colombo, Doha, Muscat, Yangon, Tashkent, Manama, Thimpu, Beirut, Male, Tripoli, Brunei and Port Louis.
Of the 24 missions that could not achieve their targets for the first 11 months of the current fiscal, exports still marked a rise for 11 of them over the corresponding period of the last fiscal (2012-13). These missions are in Washington, London, Tokyo, Riyadh, Canberra, Ottawa, Geneva, Mexico City, Moscow, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.
However, 13 missions -- New Delhi, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, Tehran, Katmandu, Pretoria, Islamabad, Nairobi, Brasilia, Manila and Rabat –- saw exports decline during the July-May period of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2012-13).
The EPB figures revealed that out of the 17 Bangladesh missions having commercial wings, only six achieved their export targets while 11 others could not reach their respective targets.
The six missions with commercial wings, which achieved their respective export targets, are in Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, Beijing and Yangon.
Although the remaining 11 commercial wings could not achieve the target, the earnings of eight of them still saw increase over the 2012-13 fiscal. These are in Washington, London, Tokyo, Ottawa, Geneva, Canberra, Moscow and Kuala Lumpur.
