24 mega schemes for Khulna\\\'s development undertaken

KHULNA, Dec 13 (UNB): Aiming to elevate Khulna region to a modern one, the Khulna Development Authorities (KDA) has taken up 24 mega projects to carry out far-reaching development.
Apart from remodeling Khulna city, the schemes are targeted to develop Noapara industrial belt and Mongla port with new infrastructures.
Besides, seven more such projects funded by KDA are at present under its implementation. KDA officials' sources said once the projects are implemented, the region, including the divisional city, will have a completely new face.
The projects mainly focus on solution to the housing problems, expansion of urbanisation, easing pressure on the roads, setting up a number of industries and income-generation of a large population.
The project works include construction of different roads in Noapara involving Tk 5 billion, construction of dams and bridges along with tunnels on both sides of the Rupsha River and construction of a park on its bank at a cost of Tk 20 billion, construction of a bridge connecting Mongla with Khanzahan Ali Bridge and a road on the Pashur riverside involving Tk 17 billion, civic services development costing Tk 3 billion, development the city centre on the Rupsha Bridge approach road at a cost of Tk 4 billion, construction of a link road from Niklapur to Tilka at a cost of Tk 480 billion, construction of a five-star hotel involving Tk 3 billion, construction of a satellite town covering Noapara, Rupsha and Mongla involving Tk five crore, repair and construction of residential area for the KDA employees at a cost of Tk 3 billion, construction of an internal road network in the city at a cost of Tk 2.5 billion, construction of several roads including Rayer Mahal-Koia Bazar Road and Khulna-Satkhira Road involving Tk 2.50 billion, construction of an IT village park involving Tk 2.5 billion, construction of a bypass road at Noapara involving Tk300 crore and renovation of KDA New Market at a cost of Tk 2.8 billion.
The projects have been set to be implemented by the year 2018, the KDA sources added. The approved projects include construction of the extension building of KDA at a cost of Tk 166.8 million, construction of a commercial complex in Nirala Residential Area at a cost of Tk 10.6 crore, development work of Ahsanabad Residential Area at a cost of Tk 1.25 billion, construction work of a digital archive and management software at a cost of Tk 53.9 million and construction of a rest house at a cost of Tk 40.9 million. Implementation of these projects is expected to complete by the year 2016.
Kazi Mohamamd Sabirul Alam, superintendent engineer of KDA, said a massive change will come in the city after the implementation of these projects.
