25 hurt in clash between BCL, JCD activists

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Begum Rokeya University here on Thursday. Witnesses said the university units of BCL and JCD, the student wings of Awami League and BNP respectively, brought separate processions on the campus welcoming admission seekers when the admission test for the first year honours courses was in progress in the morning. At one stage, activists of the two rival student bodies locked into a clash as the processions confronted near Shaheed Minar on the campus around 12:30 pm, creating panic among the admission seekers and their guardians. During the hour-long clash, both the groups blasted cocktails, hurled brick chips at each other and engaged in chase and counter-chase, leaving at least 25 people injured. Later, police rushed to the spot and charged batons to disperse the warring groups. Both BCL and JCD blamed each other for the incident. Addition police have been deployed on the campus to avert further clash, according to a news agency.
