2.5 kg gold recovered at Benapole border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in a drive arrested a man along with 20 gold bars weighting 2.5 kilograms at Benapole union under Sarsa upazila in Jessore on Tuesday night. The arrested is Shah Alam, son of Yakub Ali of Khoshi village of the upazila. Lieutenant Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB 23 battalion, said being tipped off that a consignment of gold was going to India through Benapole’s Putkhali border at late night, a BGB patrol team raided Bottala on Putkhali border and arrested Shah Alam. Later, 20 gold bars were recovered from his body. He was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was also filed, according to UNB.
