2.5 kg gold seized in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Nov 2: Police arrested a man along with 2.5 kg gold worth about Tk 5.0 million (50 lakh) from the Meghna Toll Plaza area under Sonargaon Upazila Thursday midnight. Acting on a tip-off, police halted a Dhaka-bound bus coming from Feni and arrested its passenger Shamim Uddin (32). They later recovered the gold bars, kept in four packets, from his possession. Later on Friday, police arrested his two brothers -- Hafez Ahmed Masum and Nazrul Islam -- as they went to Sonargoan police station and offered its OC Shafiqul Alam Tk 0.5 million (5 lakh) in bribe to secure the release of Shamim. —UNB
