Wednesday, 26 March 2014

Bangladeshis created a new history on Wednesday. More than 250,000 people sang "Amar Sonar Bangla, Ami Tomai Bhalo Basi" in chorus at the National Parade ground at Old Airport at Tejgaon in the city in the morning, to rewrite the history books. Millions of people home and abroad watched the creation of the history when ‘Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla’ (Sonar Bangla in lakhs of voices) was sung by 254,681 people, including students, women and children, around 11:00am, to enter Bangladesh's name into the Guinness Book of World Records. On May 6 last year, the Sahara India Pariwar had set a record in the Guinness Book by arranging the singing of the Indian national anthem by 121,653 people. The Bangladehis have surpassed that feat a few minutes ago by getting a far larger body of people to sing the Bangladesh national anthem. The chorus, participated by people from all walks of life, was organised on the occasion of the 44th Independence and National Day of the country, according to a news agency.
