250kg gold, currencies seized at HSIA in one yr

Customs men and police seized gold weighing 250 kg and foreign currencies worth Tk 2 billion (200 crore) at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) during the last one year. Customs and law enforcement agencies also arrested 45 people, including cabin crew, customs officials, employees and drivers of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited. Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) Alamgir Hossain Shimul said the law enforcement agencies also arrested 3,168 people on charges of smuggling and other illegal activities during the period from June 2010 to February 2014. — BSS
