26 arrested in Northern University attack

Police have arrested 26 people for their suspected involvement with an attack on a private university campus in Dhaka. The Registrar of Northern University (NU) Eqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui filed a case with the Tejgaon Police Station against a construction firm after an attack on their Karwan Bazar campus where five students received stab injuries. Tejgaon Police Station OC Mazharul Islam said all of the men held worked for the building construction firm. They were arrested under charges of assault and vandalism. Siddiqui said he had filed the case naming of the firm in question and 25 other people. A group of people, equipped with sharp weapons, iron rods and sticks, stormed the NU’s Karwan Bazar campus on Friday night, vandalised the private varsity and hacked five students, who were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The NU authorities blamed real estate company ‘EDB’ for the attack, according to bdnews24.com.
