27th BCS exams committee chief resigns

Friday, 15 June 2007

Chairman of the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations committee Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury resigned office Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.
He said the reasons behind the decision were personal.
After resigning from the office, Ashraf joined his previous teaching job at the Marketing Department of the Dhaka University.
The resignation came after the 27th BCS oral exam was cancelled on May 30 amid broader allegations of question leaks, politicisation, bribery and nepotism surrounding the examinations.
Ashraf told the news agency that he had just wanted to quit with dignity. Ashraf was appointed to the Public Service Commission (PSC) on May 30, 2004.
His resignation cut the numbers of PSC members to seven.
The caretaker government cancelled the viva results of the 27th BCS exams in a move meant to restore trust of the people in the PSC and establish transparency in the wake of several news reports questioning the transparency of the BCS examinations.
