28 ACC staff faced actions on graft charges, Matia tells JS

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury told parliament Wednesday that actions were taken against some 28 officers and employees of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) on corruption and bribery charges since its inception in 2004, reports UNB.
The minister, who is in-charge of the Cabinet Division in the House, came up with the information replying to a scripted question from ruling Awami League (AL) MP Didarul Alam (Chittagong-4).
In reply to a starred question from AL MP Israfil Alam (Naogaon-6), Matia Chowdhury said the cabinet took a total of 253 decisions until January 13 this year after the present government had taken office on January 12 last year.
"Of these, 176 have already been implemented while the rest 77 are under implementation," she said.
During the previous tenure of the AL-led government, the implementation rate of the cabinet decisions was 96.49 per cent, the minister informed the House.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali told parliament that there are over 13 million elderly people in the country.
President Abdul Hamid on November 27, 2014, declared the country's people aged 60 years or above as senior citizens in order to honouring elderly people, the minister said replying to a question from AL MP Shamsul Alam Dudu (Joypurhat-1).
