28-kg gold seized at Dhaka airport, Jessore

Twenty-eight kilograms (kg) of gold worth about Tk 120 million (12 crore) were seized from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital city and Jessore district on Friday night and early Saturday, reports BSS.
Airport customs intelligence personnel arrested civil aviation employee SM Nurul Islam along with 16kg gold from the Shahjalal Airport around 11.30pm on Friday while police recovered 12kg gold from an abandoned private car at Bagharpara Upazila in Jessore district around 2.30am on Saturday, police and customs intelligence sources said.
Customs intelligence officials seized 12 gold bars weighing 12kg and gold chains weighing four kg from a toilet of the airport's immigration zone, wrapped with tissue paper in an abandoned basket, director general Dr Mainul Khan of the airport customs intelligence said.
The civil aviation employee Nurul Islam was arrested near the toilet for his suspicious movement, he said, adding that the value of the seized gold was estimated at Tk 80 million (8 crore).
