Friday, 20 July 2007

Some 28 players reported Thursday to coach Mahbub Harun and assistant coach Abdullah Piru for the second phase national hockey camp that began at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium, reports UNB.
All the players made practice under the supervision of the coach this afternoon ahead of the 7th Asia Cup Hockey Tournament beginning September 1-9 in Chennai, India.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh Hockey Federation picked up 28 players out of initially selected 51.
"Our target in the tournament to hold the 6th position while Bangladesh finished 8th in the last Asia Cup Hockey," said assistant coach Abdullah Piru while talking to UNB at the practice venue.
He said the final squad would be announced after the six teams preparatory tournament to be held in the first week of August.
The teams are BKSP, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Army and the practicing 28 players split into two groups.
A total of nine teams -- defending champion Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Korea, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and host India -- have so far confirmed their participation in tournament.
