2nd round of mass Covid jabbing begins

First death after four days reported

Bangladesh on Monday rolled out the second round of its mega Covid vaccination drive without any registration, aiming to achieve the target of vaccinating 90 per cent people of the country, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, the country logged 81 fresh Covid cases in 24 hours with one death till Monday morning, after reporting no death for the last four days.
The latest round of the vaccination campaign will continue till March 30, said a notification issued by the Health Ministry.
Vaccine seekers will get the second dose from the centers where they had received the first dose during the 1st round of this campaign, according to the notification.
People aged18 years or above, who have passed four months after receiving the 2nd dose, will be able to receive the booster shots at the centers even if they have not received an SMS.
Besides, the vaccine seekers aged 12 years or above, who have passed 28 days after getting the 1st jab can get the second jab under this campaign.
But, in case of AstraZeneca vaccine only, the 2nd dose should be administered two months after the 1st dose, it added.
Students aged 12 years and above who have not yet received the 1st dose against Covid-19 were urged to take the 1st dose during this campaign.
Meanwhile, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be administered as booster doses to the frontliners, senior citizens and women depending on availability, said the notification.
The government took the initiative to administer at least 10 million Covid-19 vaccine doses on February 26 to achieve the target of vaccinating 90 percent of people in the country. Later, this campaign was extended till February 28.
Meanwhile, the country's total Covid-19 caseload to 19, 51,363, while the death toll mounted to 29,119.
On Sunday, the number was lower as 43 new cases were reported with no death.
The daily positivity rate rose a bit to 0.86 per cent from Sunday's 0.54 per cent after testing 9,397 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, the mortality rate remained unchanged too at 1.49 per cent.
The recovery rate rose to 96.28 per cent with the recovery of 993 more patients during the 24-hour period.
The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020. On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest daily positivity rate at 33.37 per cent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths. Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
