Wednesday, 26 February 2014

Three leaders of Magura district unit Awami League (AL) and BNP have been expelled from their parties for contesting the upazila elections going against the parties’ decision. The expellees are Mahammadpur upazila unit AL joint secretary Habibur Rahman and leader Abdullah Kafi and Shalikha upazila unit BNP general secretary Anisur Rahman Milton. Mahammadpur upazila unit AL president Hazi Golam Rabbani said AL extended support to Golam Morshed Shubhro to run the race for the chairman post in the upcoming upazila elections. On the other hand, Habibur Rahman and Abdullah Kafi submitted nomination papers to vie for the same post defying party choice. Meanwhile, Shalikha upazila unit BNP expelled its general secretary Anisur Rahman Milton for giving his candidacy for the chairman post in the upazila election against the party-fielded candidates. The elections of the two upazilas of the district are scheduled to be held on Thursday in the second phase of the local government polls, according to a news agency.
