Three Bangladeshi construction workers have died in Malaysia when a 490 tonne concrete span collapsed to bury them at a worksite of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) Monday night, according to a news agency.
Malaysian state news agency Bernama said the trio went missing after the incident occurred around at 8:30pm local time at the Kota Damansara worksite in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It said Bangladeshi embassy there had been informed of the incident.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak expressed shock at the incident in his Twitter page and asked for an investigation soon.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Elahi Hossain, Mohamed Faruk Khan and Mohammad Alauddin Mollick.
Hossain’s body was recovered at 2:30am Tuesday while the bodies of other two had been retrieved at 1:35pm local time.
Bernama quoted eyewitness Md Shahjahan, 30, another Bangladeshi, as saying that one of the victims had phoned him to bring over some tools just before the accident.
He told Bernama that he was heading towards them when he saw concrete falling on them.
