3 cases filed against 1,500 for Satkhira violence

SATKHIRA, Apr 7 (UNB): Three cases were filed against 1,500 people with Kaliganj thana on Thursday night in connection with the recent vandalism in two villages of Kaliganj upazila.
Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Nilkanthapur village of Kaliganj, filed one case against Mizanur Rahman, Fatehpur correspondent of local daily Dristipat, for publishing a 'false report inciting violence'.
Habibur Rahman, a resident of Fatehpur village, filed another case against 500 unidentified people and identified 29 ones for ransacking 15 houses.
Sub-inspector Jahidur Rahman filed another case against 1,000 unidentified people and identified 37 ones.
The cases were recorded on Thursday night but no one was arrested till Friday afternoon. "Drives are on to nab the accused," said Police Super Mohammad Asaduzzaman.
About 15 houses were ransacked and came under arson attack in Fatehpur and Chakdah villages on March 31 and April 1 following a report published by daily Dristipat that invectives were hurled on Great Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (SM) in a drama staged at Fatehpur High School on March 27.
Police Super Habibur Rahman Khan and Kaliganj thana OC Syed Farid Uddin were stand released on April 2 for their failure to maintain law and order during the incident.
