3 cops closed in Jessore

Three policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Bagherpara Police Station in Jessore district were closed to the District Police Line on Thursday following fleeing of an accused from the custody. The policemen are OC Kaiyum Ali Sardar, assistant sub-inspector Nasir and constable Olier Rahman. Tarun Kumar Kar, in-charge of Bhitaballa police camp, said Mizanur Rahman, a constable of Jhikargachha Police Station, along with four people intercepted a Khulna-bound private car carrying Touhidur Rahman from Kalna Ghat area in Narail district near Gabtala Bridge on the Narail-Jessore road around 10 am on Wednesday. Identifying himself as DB police, Mizanur Rahman took the car to a nearest brick kiln and looted valuables including Tk4700 and two mobile phone sets after beating up the driver and passengers of the car. Later, constable Mizanur drove the car and left the place. When the car reached Basundia, a team of Bagherpara police challenged the car and arrested Mizanur while his other associates managed to flee. During interrogation, Mizanur said DB police constable Lipton and constable Rabayet of Sujanagar Police Station in Pabna were also involved in the mugging. Later, police arrested Mizanur following a case filed by victim Touhidur Rahman. On Thursday, Mizanur managed to escape from the police custody. On information, Jessore Additional Superintendent of Police KM Ariful Haque and Assistant Superintendent of Police Billal Hossain investigated the matter of his escaping. Later OC Kaiyum, ASI Nasir and constable Olier were closed on Thursday night on charge of negligence in duty, said the additional police super , according to UNB.
