Three policemen and another person have been injured in an encounter between law enforcers and Yaba peddlers at Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf. The gunbattle took place at Keruntali village under Hoaikong Union around 2.30am on Thursday, said Teknaf Police Station OC Ranjit Kumar Barua. The three injured policemen – Sub-Inspector Rajesh Barua, and constables Nihir Chandra, and Habibur Rahman – have suffered bullet injuries. The other injured person was identified Yaba trader Ramzan Ali. All were admitted to the Upazila health complex. Police raided Keruntali area following a tip-off that Yaba traders were gathering there, OC Barua said. Sensing the presence of police, the Yaba peddlers opened fires, forcing police retaliation. Ramzan, who was hit by bullet, could not escape, although others managed to flee. Police recovered 1,000 Yaba tablets, a pistol and some cartridges from Ramzan. There were several cases pending against Ramzan under Narcotics Control Act, police say, according to bdnews24.com.
