Wednesday, 10 December 2014

Several hours after an inter-city train ploughed through the platform of Chittagong Railway Station, the authorities suspended three employees of Bangladesh Railways (BR) for negligence in duties on Wednesday. The suspended employees are ATM Jahurul Haque, loco master of the train’s engine, his assistant Imran Hossain, and points man Jahangir Alam. The decision came following the report of a probe carried out shortly after the incident, said Feroz Akhter, divisional transport officer of BR (east zone, Chittagong). The engine of the Dhaka-bound ‘Mahanagar Probhati’ passenger train swerved off the track onto the Platform No 4 at Chittagong Railway Station around 06:45am during replacement of compartments. Mafizur Rahman, additional chief engineer (Bridges) at the railway station, said the engine along with some compartments veered off the track and got onto the platform after taking carriages from Pahartali dock. The platform was heavily damaged, according to a news agency.
