3 drug peddlers held in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, May 10: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of Joypurhat camp arrested 3 persons connected to drug smuggling and trading with 390 bottles of Phensidyl (codeine syrup) from Zotegobardhone village of Dhamuirhat Upazila under Naogoan district Tuesday noon. Alamgir Hossain, commander of Joypurhat RAB camp said, acting on a secret information a team of RAB raided that village and searched a house of Golap Hossain. RAB team seized 390 bottles of phensidyl and arrested 3 smugglers and drug traders red handed. They are Abdus Samad son of Asir Uddin, Golap Hossain and Milon Hossain, son of Kinu Moddin of Zotegobardhone village under Dhamuirhat Upazila in Naogoan district. In another drive and another RAB team seized huge Indian contraband medicines. Handicrafts fair Another message adds: A day-long workshop for community based organisation's development group leaders and a handicrafts fair was held at Shopna Chaya Community Centre organised by Worldvision of Joypurhat cluster of Bogra zone Tuesday. Towhiduzzaman, a district cooperative officer inaugurated the fair and the workshop as chief guest. Michael Gomes, Joypurhat ADP manager chaired the function. 2 hemp peddlers get jail terms Our Correspondent from Natore reports: Mobile courts of Natore Sadar Upazila sentenced 2 hemp peddlers to different terms of imprisonment Monday. On secret information Naldanga Thana police headed by SI Masud Karim and ASI Abdul Hai arrested one hemp peddler Kamal Hossain from Naldanga central mosque area in Natore Sadar Upazila. Later he was handed over to mobile court and Executive Magistrate Akhtarunnahar sentenced him to one year term of imprisonment. Kamal Hossain (38) is the son of late Abdul Jabbar of village Haludghar of Naldanga Thana. In another anti-drug drive headed by SI Zahurul Islam and ASI Joydeb Kumar of Naldanga Thana another hemp peddler Alamgir Hossain Tenku (27). was arrested and convicted.
